This from an article about an apparently Altman-like tribute lunch held on what would have been Robert Altman's 82nd birthday:
Mr. Altman’s passions — a bottomless disgust for the suits in the movie business, a capacious love of actors and a desire to tell the next story — came up in speech after speech, as did his tendency for breathtaking directness.
Paul Thomas Anderson, the director of “Magnolia,” who spent time on the set of “A Prairie Home Companion,” Mr. Altman’s last film, said Mr. Altman would listen carefully to the suggestions of others and then say, “Let’s not do that.”
