Hello world

OK, I guess the world can blame "American Idol" for some more mediocre (or worse) music. See, I couldn't get that darn Chris guy's version of Endless Love out of my head, so I sat down to learn something about that three+three+two rhythm he used in his arrangement. And of course I came to "Clocks" by Coldplay, which used the same rhythm scheme to make a great song and seemingly open newscasts across the country. By the way, was it just Kansas City, or did every news department seem to play "Clocks" under their commercial copy that said, "When important news strikes, TV5 is there." It got so that every time Karen and I heard "Clocks" start on the radio, one of us would say, "Shut up, there's important news breaking!" But I digress...
So, I found a guitar site that offered an easy-looking tutorial on playing the riff, and when I tried it I found I could usually play the progression once (if I was lucky) without making a mistake. So I thought I'd play it once into GarageBand, and I did, and then I started humming along with the playback. I'd never recorded my own voice, so I did that, and then I'd never overdubbed a harmony part so I did that.
And, as you might suspect, I've got my first-ever improv to show to the world. I obviously must have some pride in it if I'm foisting it on my friends and family, but really it's rough and took about as long to record as it does to listen to. So I might try more, and hopefully the music will be better.
Until then, blame that damn American Idol.
